The Wait

Waiting on God is never easy!

But it is well worth the wait.

I love this picture of one of our grandson’s from our son’s wedding this past weekend. Just to give you a little more insight into the setting. This is the holding area for the groom and his attendants while anxiously awaiting that moment! Just over the top of the wall, the guest is beginning to arrive and take their seats.

Look at the smirk on his handsome face. Look how calmly he’s sitting there in full anticipation of hearing the queue to make his way up the stairs and over the wall to get into place and watch for his mother to make her appearance. Nothing could convince him that she would not appear.

That’s how we should be when we are waiting on God. Waiting with expectation, prayerfully, with hope and in full confidence that we can trust His character and goodness completely. Nothing wavering and nothing missing. We can hold tightly to the truth of God’s word, knowing that He is not a man that He should lie (Num. 23:19).

Sometimes God will do things suddenly and sometimes he chooses to delay. Just know that His delay is not a test. His delay is a tool that I have found grows my faith and even our character even more (James 1:4). Remember when Mary and Martha’s brother Lazarus was ill and died (John !!:1-44)? One particular portion of scripture that you should look at is vs. 4 When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” We get tired, but we can trust Him so we wait patiently.

The two most important elements for trusting God is: Trusting His terms and having a complete dependence on Him. If we fail at these two, we will not be able to wait with patience.

We can rest assured that God has the best plan for our lives and if we follow closely to Him, He will reveal the plan. Sometimes day by day, sometimes week by week and sometimes it may be min by min. Whatever and however, let Him decide. Romans 5:5 lets us know that hope in God does not disappoint.
